About Shana Huizenga, LMHC
LH60496390
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). A native to the Puget Sound area, I earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Washington State University (Go Cougs!). I then went on to receive a master's degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage family therapy from Pepperdine University.
I have enjoyed working with children and families since 2005. My early experience was in Applied Behavior Analysis working directly with children with autism and other developmental disorders. This experience honed my skills of incorporating play, creativity and fun into sessions. Since then, I have transitioned into psychotherapy and enjoy working with people of all ages.
My Treatment Approach
I have a very collaborative style and I believe in developing a strong theraputic alliance between myself and my clients. My goal is to create a safe and trusting environement that allows us to learn and build on your strengths. I draw from my extensive experience in Behaviorism and incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and integrating psychological flexibility techniques to create an individualized approach to each client. I believe that while therapy can (and most likely will) be challenging, it can also be a fun place for laughter and sharing.
